II. UNeECC Erasmus Meeting Summary
Summary of the II. UNeECC Erasmus Meeting in Porto, on 12-13 May 2011
The II. UNeECC Erasmus Meeting was organized on 12-13 May 2011 in Porto, Portugal. It was hosted by University Fernando Pessoa. 14 participants were welcomed from 12 institutions. After a short welcome by Prof Salvato Trigo, Rector of the Fernando Pessoa University, the Portuguese National Agency gave an overview of the Erasmus program in Portugal. After this, the Guimaraes European Capitals of Culture Office presented the strategy of the Guimaraes ECoC Year 2012.
During the meeting the representatives of the institutions gave short presentations of their Erasmus activities and answered the upcoming questions. Participants touched upon several themes such as facts and figures of Erasmus incoming and outgoing students; balance of mobility; concern about language preparation; staff mobility problems, insufficient involvement of academic staff, lack of clear and integrated internationalization policy. On the second day the participants attended the ‘speed dating’ program which was proved in 2010 in Avignon to be a very successful and effective method for bilateral discussions.
During the conclusion the participants made very useful concrete suggestions for future UNeECC networking meetings. The conclusion was followed by a campus visit of University Fernando Pessoa.
