Bruges European Business Conference
17-18 March, 2010
Dear Madame, Sir,
The College of Europe invites you to participate in the first Bruges European Business Conference, to be held at the College premises in Bruges on the evening of 17th March 2010 and the day of 18th March 2010.
The College of Europe's newest study programme 'European Integration and Business' emphasizes the role of European business in European integration and the two-way influence (both impacts and advocacy) on the EU / business interface. This newest specialisation of the College is just as much our "core business" - profound expertise in European integration, both analytically and policy-wise - as before, with one crucial difference: the great significance of business in realizing market integration as well as the many interactions between business and common policies / EU regulation takes centerstage.
The Bruges European Business Conference, organized in partnership with Deloitte, and with the help of several companies appreciating the potential of the new specialisation, is a natural complement of the new study programme.
The set-up of the conference is such that in-depth debates are encouraged. The six workshops (three parallel in the morning and three in the afternoon) have been scheduled for 3 hours so as to facilitate extensive exchange and solid argumentation. Business speakers play a role in all workshops. The conference will have no more than roughly 100 participants, so that the workshops can enjoy meaningful discussions. Summaries of the debates will be made by our students and placed on the College website shortly after the conference, in addition to all slides presentations.
The conference is free, including food and drinks, except for a registration fee of € 50.

The theme of the 11th international conference is Human Resource Development in the Era of Global Mobility.
Global mobility of the workforce increased exponentially in the past decade and became a current phenomenon. This phenomenon is influenced by demographical forecasts that show evidence of extreme imbalances in the working age population around the globe and is facilitated by international treaties and labor policies that allow for an easier movement of people across borders. Scholars and practitioners have started to seek understanding of the issues related to global mobility and to address their challenges both at the individual, organizational and societal levels (talent development, brain circulation, global mindset, corporate social responsibility, corporate citizenship, global citizenship, etc.). The aim of this conference is to create a learning environment where researchers, academics and practitioners can deepen their understanding and explore the potentials of HRD in the era of global mobility.
Within the conference theme a number of streams have been identified to assist with the positioning of the contributions. Please find below the planned streams, however, if you feel that your contribution lies outside any of these areas but connected to the conference theme, your submission is still highly welcome.
