Evora (Portugal) 2027

Evora, in 2027, will be the European capital of culture together with Liepaja, in Latvia.

The Portuguese Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva, during the press conference, announced that the other three cities that had entered the short list, Aveiro, Braga, Ponta Delgada, will be named Portuguese Capital of Culture for 2024, 2025, 2026 And that each of them will be assigned a contribution of 2 million euros from the government to continue working in the direction started.

Liepāja (Latvia) 2027

2027 european capitals culture latvia liepajaLiepāja is a state city in western Latvia, located on the Baltic Sea. It is the largest city in the Kurzeme Region and the third-largest city in the country after Riga (European capital of culture in 2014) and Daugavpils. It is an important ice-free port.

In the 19th and early 20th century, it was a favourite place for sea-bathers and travellers, with the town boasting a fine park, many pretty gardens and a theatre Liepāja is however known throughout Latvia as "City where the wind is born", likely because of the constant sea breeze. Its reputation as the windiest city in Latvia was strengthened with the construction of the largest wind farm in the nation (33 Enercon wind turbines) nearby.

Over these months we ourselves have experienced growth, cultivated our own curiosity, navigated new journeys of discovery, and developed relationships through rewarding dialogues and collaborations.Cultivating an inquisitive mindset introduced new approaches and positive perspectives into the Trenčín 2026 transformational process. We feel very grateful for the privilege and responsibility of embracing the challenge of bidding to be European Capital of Culture.
